I just finished fixing some skylights on my parent's house. They had the bubble type that started leaking after the roof was resurfaced. After investigating it carefully, it became apparent that when the roof was resurfaced, the edges of the skylight were covered with a sealant. (To help prevent leaks perhaps?)The problem was that this coating sealed up the weep slots along the perimeter of the aluminum frame. These slots are key to proper operation of the skylight. The skylight dome isn't sealed to the aluminum frame. The frame is designed with channels that direct any water that manages to flow between the bubble and the frame back out through weep holes.Make sure those weep holes are clear! They can be blocked by dirt, ice, or a well-intentioned roofer.
The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

If the power to the heat pump goes out, be aware that most heat pumps have auxiliary heating elements that provide heat when the weather gets really cold and the heat pump’s efficiency drops too low. These elements automatically turn on at a fairly low temperature—around 20 degrees F. When they come on, they may be drawing too much power, which can trip the circuit breaker. Just locate the circuit breaker that serves the heat pump and reset it.

An annual inspection of your unit can ensure that the various potential problems mentioned above are detected early, and before they require complete replacement. During this inspection, for instance, a professional might find small cracks in your heat exchanger or a faulty seal in your blower motor. Some manufacturer's warranties even require these annual inspections to maintain validity. Typically, your furnace inspection will cost between $80 and $150 depending on the area in which you live and the professional you work with.

AC air handler buzzing sounds. Do you hear a buzzing sound when you turn on the thermostat? The only thing that comes on in the house when you turn on the thermostat is the fan relay and fan in the air handler or furnace. Try switching the thermostat HEAT/COOL switch to OFF. Then switch the fan switch from AUTO to ON. The fan (only) should come on. If the air handler makes a buzzing sound, it probably has a bad fan relay or, more likely, blower fan.

"Got to say that I am very pleased with their work. The knowledge of the technician was on the spot. She was very professional at all times sharing her expertise and advice with me. Going further, I have hired some other pro's from this website to fix my AC and none them identified a faulty connection on the AC blower control board as my technician from Superior AC did. The price for the repair was fair, no overpricing at all. I am pretty sure that I will call them again and definitively recommend them. Thanks!! Aurelio"
