An electric furnace provides warmth by moving air over and through a series of coils. Ductwork and vents then distribute that air to the individual rooms in your home. Repair costs will depend on both the brand and the exact nature of the problem, but tend to be lower than some of the options above. That's because the units are small, and issues tend to be contained within the heating elements themselves. Expect to spend less than $300 on your electric furnace repair, depending on the exact problem.

The most efficient heating system is going to be solar, because outside of the initial hardware costs, solar energy is free. Of course the downside is you might not live in an area with a lot of sunlight, which means you’ll need to compliment your solar power with other energy sources, like fuel or electricity, when solar power runs low. Wood stoves are the next most efficient, but you’ll need to  buy wood and make a fire every day. Gas is the next most efficient, especially when gas prices are low, but they tend to fluctuate during peak usage times of the year. For pure efficiency, solar is the way to go. Regardless of what system you choose, make sure to have the proper insulation in your house to maximize heat (or cold) retention.
1 Be sure the thermostat is set to the proper setting (Heat if you’re calling for heat and the temperature you want the room to be). If the thermostat was replaced recently, the new thermostat may either be the wrong type (it must be specifically a heat pump thermostat) or it may have been wired improperly. A mistakenly wired thermostat can fry electronic components, preventing the heat pump from working properly.

You can keep your air conditioner running efficiently with some preventative care measures. Shut off the power to your AC before cleaning it or performing any of these tasks:  clean your filter at least twice a year; remove leaves and twigs from cages; clean the fins with a garden hose or special spray, then use a butter knife to straighten any that are crooked; keep your yard clean so the fins won't get blocked; cover the unit up for winter; and make sure it's level or you run the risk of damaging the inner workings of the unit.
If you need a furnace repaired or an air conditioner serviced, we'll send a local technician out to diagnose the specific problem and recommend solutions for you and your family. There will be a diagnostic fee for the visit, and any specific repairs will be an additional charge. If replacing your system is the best solution, the fee for the diagnosis will be credited toward the purchase and install of a new system.
"Warren at Lighten Up came in on time and as scheduled. Loved working with him. He provided new lighting for our kitchen remodel and did a great job. He still needs to come back and hook everything up. Also Seth came in and did some plumbing work and repair that we did not even know needed repair. I highly recommend this company and look forward to working with them in the future"

When your furnace filter becomes dirty, dusty and clogged, you can expect some negative effects on your furnace efficiency and your indoor air quality. The forced air is supposed to get blown through the filter and the filter is supposed to trap any particles so they don’t end up in your air ducts and throughout the house. When the filter has trapped too many particles and it is clogged up, the air keeps blowing, but some of those trapped particles will end up in the system and your living space. Another effect is that the furnace has to work harder to get the same amount of air through that dirty filter, so your heating bills may go up.
A number of other variables can influence your decision on whether to repair or replace your furnace, as well. In addition to cost and brand, consider the expected lifetime of your furnace. If it is more than 15 years old, it might make more sense to invest in a new unit even if it costs more than simply repairing the current problem. Long-term costs also play into the equation. For example, your new furnace may be more energy efficient than the current unit. Even though you will pay more for the actual installation, you might be able to make back your investment through lower energy bills. To make your decision, consult with a reliable professional on what to do. In inspecting your furnace, they will be able to make an informed recommendation that looks not just to the next year, but years into the future. That way, you can make the best possible decision for your home and budget long-term.

Finally, don't underestimate the thermostat as a potential reason why your furnace is not working. Everything on the heating unit itself may function perfectly, but your home still will not heat right if the console you use to set the temperature doesn't communicate your input. A faulty thermostat can either be due to the wall unit itself, or the wiring that connects it to your furnace. Average thermostat repair costs are between $108 and $282, including labor. Replacement costs, of course, depend on the thermostat you choose. Visit our thermostat repair cost guide to learn more about this type of issue.

Even if your air conditioning unit is still working, depending on the type of system in your home today, you could recoup your investment in a new system in as little as three years. However, that doesn't mean that your system needs to be replaced. Furnaces, air conditioners, and other heating and cooling systems have made tremendous gains in efficiency over the past five years, so if you have an older unit, it is worth taking a look at whether or not a repair is the best investment.

Today’s heaters are technological wonders that will keep you warm and save you money. Investing in an energy-efficient heating system can raise the value of your property, and the cost of installation will be realized on the amount you’ll save on utility bills. With Cool Care Heating & Air, you can count on proper sizing and a hassle-free installation process. The new unit may also qualify for energy-efficient incentives, and Cool Care Heating & Air offers periodic dealer rebates on select replacement systems. If your heating system is 10-15 years old, needs frequent repair work and isn’t keeping you as warm as it used to, it’s probably approaching the end of its lifespan. Replacing the unit before it dies altogether can save you time, trouble and money.
AC air handler buzzing sounds. Do you hear a buzzing sound when you turn on the thermostat? The only thing that comes on in the house when you turn on the thermostat is the fan relay and fan in the air handler or furnace. Try switching the thermostat HEAT/COOL switch to OFF. Then switch the fan switch from AUTO to ON. The fan (only) should come on. If the air handler makes a buzzing sound, it probably has a bad fan relay or, more likely, blower fan.
New heating and cooling equipment installations present a wide variety of options that can save you money on your power bills and reduce the amount of HVAC maintenance and service that will ultimately be required over the life of your new unit. Energy-efficient options like heat pumps, two-stage furnaces, air-to-heat exchangers (HRVs), and programmable thermostats can all go a long way toward increasing efficiency and extending the life expectancy of your system.
